So heres the story:
It was heard through our network of Rangers led by Seabhac and Shakru, and barbarian scouts, that a company of the Imperium was approaching Dinnog, but something had slowed thier progress, perhaps these city dwellers were not aware of the harshness of the Eiglophian valley, but for whatever reason, we had much warning before they approached the gate of Dinnog, and so there we waited for their company.
We even had enough time to enlist the help of Xixx, one of few priests Snowhawk respects, and so, strengthened our position.
Over the ridge, they finally appeared, a full company of heavily armored and shielded warriors marching in formation, with priests and archers in tow; Chimba and Wulfghard our only guardians stood thier ground fearlessly, but the heavily armored legion struck us like lightening, admitedly they smashed through our gate defense and sent the majority of the first line to Crom, but made the fatal mistake of shaming the barbarians by standing themselves on the Sacred rock in the middle of town. Little did they know, this would be thier last victory...
Quicker than they could have ever expected, the barbarian horde returned in massive numbers, and gathered, then immediately attacked from the position of the frozen lake, Entaro whos back was coverd by Graff and I, lead the charge, with the likes of our leader Curr, Cain, Urfang, Kashgar, Ahearn, Kalidor the mighty Mendrak and all the others not far behind....
Not a single imperium dog was left standing; the bodies heaped upon the sacred stone as a sacrifice to Crom, a warning to any who dared invade our homelands.... Shakru, made sure that those who stood valiently on the rock, where buried like warriors....
We set up for the second wave, but this time we decided to fight our way; the rangers, and several of of warriors including myself and Deist, hid ourselves outside the camp, and laid a multi-flank ambush for when they attempted to return to the gate.
They again approached in formation, and the swords sung out en masse, the ambushers hit thier archers and priests hard, and collapsed around thier legion, and in the end, most of our troops still stood and none of theirs where left.
For the next exchange We had noticed, that the outlanders would ride thier horses close, then group up into thier formation, so we decided to suprize them: We put everyman on horseback, and decided to cavalry charge them, before they had the chance to unhorse!
So, everyone of us mounted up, and charged them, they were on horse too, and we caught them by suprize, the battle was glorious, and we did VERY well from horseback,
I actually knocked three of those dogs from thier horses, and killed two of them who were unhorsed all the while still swinging my swords from the back of my trusty steed! the battle did not fair well for them, and we ran and trampled thier numbers into the ground, again their legion smashed and pushed back, though they fought nobily to the last man.
We regrouped and wiped the blood from our swords, and decided to defend the gate in the style of the original exchange, since we had already showed our prowess, and one last time the imperium legion approached in formation but this time they stealthily had sent a lighter force around the side that attacked us from the back. they caught us unaware, but this time they would not stand on our sacred rock; this time their only reward was an untimely burial.
The battle was declared over, but we heard no official surrender, so we took matters into our own hands, mounted up, and charged towards the lower settlement to push them out of our homelands.
Suprisingly they were on the road, but spread out, we killed many of them, they routed and those that survived the onslought drew into a small circle at the entrance to our valley.
Thier general officially surrendered, bending on his knee nobily, and offered his sword, before bieng told to leave our homelands by Entaro (the champion of the battle) before the noon-day Sun.
The barbarian cheers and jeers where loud as we watched the legion retreat, and the Imperium learned why no one dared attack the Cimmerians lightly, after experiences like Venarium, and now Dinnog...
After, about half our forces the most blood lusted among us, decided to continue the clean-up of our homelands and rode into the fields of the dead, riding down every outlander, and giving them the choice of leaving, or dieng. Everyone who did not leave, died...
We even got into a heated battle with TFO reinforced by the Undead lords right at the entrance of fields of the dead, but in the end, we pushed them straight out of the zone, even though we were outnumbered for we fought with great passion....
A honorless barbarian who had been helping the outlanders challenged any of us who were of the same level to single combat, Olcan stepped forward and dispached the naive, and told the rest to leave now or die!
So there is the Story of the battle of Dinnog. It will be talked of around the fires for many moons!
