here is the BBC article http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scot ... 901231.stm and here's a youtube video of the bionic hand in use: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=0 Anyone else note at about 2:30mins into that video what gesture she misses doing the most? Either way this technology kicks some serious @$$!
hah That is pretty badass though, I'll have to admit. I remember when I used to be at University 2 years ago there was a professor that had robotic feet. Legs were fine and everything but he had these metal blocked feet that would tilt & maneuver with his steps... insane shit. Bionics are definatly badass.
wow didn't take long for this thread to take a turn If anyone every played the Pen and Paper RPG, Battlelords of the 21st Century... they had a bionic implant called something like StudMaster 3000, or something like that, can't remember. Anyhow the tag line was "Keep her happy every night, all night, and she'll never know"
I remember a P&P game called cyberpunk 2010...but probably it's the same game under a different name...and that part was so hilarious (the studd's sexual implant) that became part of out everyday conversation. Also...if you got the chance...watch the movie Tetsuo for some.."interesting" use of a drill. Oh...and now I know that man's pin number
Woot i want cybernetic parts now well ok maybe not now but when they advance more. Lol yeah i bet she misses that finger
I can already see the waves upon waves of people severing their own arms/legs in "accidents" to get one of these sweet robot arms. Now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to go use the tablesaw, need to do some sawing...yup...
What will be cool is when they can make light-weight "bones" and micro-fibral pseudomuscles so that they can completely rebuild a hand. It will be especially cool if they learn to interface it with a/the nervous system. They're supposedly researching all that, but I haven't heard anything about any results or anything, just rumors. That'll be the biggest breakthrough in bionics ever. Regardless, I wonder what progress they're making on full limbs. That would be interesting to see.
We could attach new cybernetics appendages to our body! I always find myself in shortage when I'm playing an FPS game and I'm trying to drink a soda and scratch my balls at the same time
There's no pause command in online FPS games! Just a short stretch when you die and have to wait for respawn
Brief article talking about pseudomuscular actuators: End Effector with Pseudomuscular Actuators. Very brief mention, but still interesting. I just wish all of the Warhammer 40K freaks and wannabe journalists would either stop posting or stop using the term (since the latter obviously have no clue what the word means.) They make it very hard to run searches on this stuff.
