I've talked about this on vent a few times, these two are my favorite zombie books.

World War Z
This book is a sort of "inspired by" from old WWII documentaries that interviewed various key people from the war all telling their each stories of their experiences. It is done in a sort of interview format in a chronological order, first talking about how the virus spread around the world to how people dealt with the zombies. This is like the holy grail of zombies books, it is by far the best piece out there.

The audiobook is abridged but has a star-filled cast and is REALLY well done. The stories it contains are complete, just other stories/interviews were entirely omitted (shame too, my favorites were cut ;__; ).

If someone's nervous about torrents I can upload it to my webserver.

There is actually a sort of prequel to WWZ, the Zombie Survival Guide. It is not a full narrative though, it's basically tips and such for fighting zombies but there are a few short stories in the back that are a fantasy timeline of old zombie breakout stories. It was only released in paperback.

You can buy the both of them on Amazon for 18$.

Then there's Day to Day Armageddon, it follows a guy keeping a journal since the outbreak. It reminded me a lot of WWZ in the way the outbreak kind of happened but has a few key differences. Since the whole book is in the journal format it only follows from the perspective of one person and the stories he hears.

I really liked this one because it was more of a 'typical guy' type story, where he just figures out how to get along and how he reacted to certain situations. There is a lot of action in this one and the end has a pretty epic battle. It was written by a Naval Officer so has quite a few military references, which I think makes the whole thing a bit more "real".

It has a sequel coming out in July.

There is some fairly new compilation of undead stories in the Forgotten Realms series. I do not know who the author is but I think R.A. Salvatore is either a co-author or the story "keeper" like he was in the Drow series War of the Spider Queen.

I just looked it up:

Realms of the Dead: A Forgotten Realms Anthology (The Haunted Lands) by Susan Morris, R.A. Salvatore, Ed Greenwood, and Richard Baker (Mass Market Paperback - Jan. 5, 2010)

I also read a Warhammer book "Runefang" which has many undead in it . . . good read
